MSC Dytran 2025.2 Release Highlights

In this release, a new strain-based composite failure model, usability enhancements around simulation outputs and performance improvements when dealing with rigid bodies contact have been implemented.

Usability Enhancements for Output Requests

Dytran can generate time-history files during simulation that capture results at specific grid points and elements. These results may include, for instance, translations, velocities, accelerations, and forces at specific nodes of at specific rigid bodies Using Dytran Explorer and the Visual Time History Viewer, users can efficiently Description these results or combine multiple datasets for further analysis. Up to the version 2025.1 time-history output was limited to the global coordinate system. Starting with this release, local coordinate systems-either stationary or moving-can now be selected for result generation, offering greater flexibility and precision in post-processing.



A new output capability has been introduced for Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) simulations. It is now possible to extract the center of gravity for parts modelled using Eulerian elements. This enhancement is particularly valuable in scenarios where fluid displacement occurs-such as in sloshing simulations-to better assess the influence of design features like baffles. Previously, outputs such as mass, volume, and energy were available; the addition of center of gravity data provides deeper insight into fluid behavior and system dynamics.

New Strain-Based Composite Failure Model

A new composite failure model has been introduced, complementing the existing stress-based models. This model introduces strain-based damage initiation, along with layer-wise damage tracking and element deletion, enabling more accurate simulation of composite behaviour, such as in bird strike analysis.

Rigid body contact improvements

Several simulation scenarios-such as sheet metal forming-involve interactions between flexible and rigid bodies. To enhance performance in such cases, a new option has been introduced that improves parallel processing and scalability, thereby significantly reducing analysis runtime. This improvement is achieved through optimized memory management and refined surface calculations for rigid bodies, resulting in more efficient solver performance.
